Do what you’re good at and what you like to do
Make sure you are doing what you love. You can only achieve your full potential by finding your area of excellence and setting up your life so that you spend most of your time working and developing your talents in that area. Success requires you to put your heart into your project and not to give up when the going gets tough. Until you start using your natural gifts by doing the things you excel at, you will not apply yourself as fully and will not feel satisfied with your life.
George and I worked in a finance organisation for a number of years, both as account managers specialising in business. George was highly skilled in sales but was not naturally gifted with computers, and so would sometimes get bogged down for hours writing reports. I was more of an analytical number cruncher, happy to write reports all day long if necessary, but I could not match George’s sales ability.
While we both became senior account managers through our own efforts, George and I discovered that forming a partnership allowed us to concentrate on what we each did best. As a team, our productivity was far higher than it ever could have been as individuals. Additionally, because we were each doing what we liked to do, the work became more enjoyable.
